On Thursday 9th September 2021 a diverse group of stakeholders – including country governments, multilateral development banks, civil society organizations, donor countries, climate finance institutions, researchers and experts - will gather online to discuss the role of transformational change in climate action. The topic: Are we asking the right questions?
Why is this happening - and why now?
The latest IPCC report has brought home to us all that incremental change will be wholly unable to solve the climate crisis. Transformational change capable of matching the depth and magnitude of the crisis is urgently required. However, the practices associated with the deep systems change that can bring about pathways to a future that is climate neutral, inclusive, equitable and sustainable, are only just beginning to mature. It is clear that dedicated collaborative action is required – and now - in order to advance this vital practice, then transfer learnings across industries and geographies to better enable our transition, in time.
This is exactly what the Climate Investment Funds (CIF)’s Transformational Change Learning Partnership (TCLP) has been working hard to achieve, through collaborative, facilitated learning and analysis since its inception in 2017.
This next webinar follows hot on the heels of a multi-day workshop held in May 2021, that focused on work that had taken place over the past two years and that built on the original work which started in 2017. Amongst a rich agenda, two important learning briefs were shared focused on collectively moving the practice of designing, implementing and evaluating transformative climate action forward: A co-created definition and set of dimensions for transformational change, as well as a set of signals for transformational change. Both remain working drafts and will evolve as this community of practice test and develop these concepts further.
A key output of the workshop was a powerful set of questions that were identified to help focus and guide a wide range of stakeholders in this collective mission. This next webinar will share a synthesis of these questions, before exploring their implications and application in relation to specific interest groups inside the TCLP, namely Clean Energy, Resilience and Landscapes, and Just Transitions, and their alignment with new programs and investment criteria being developed in the build-up to COP26.
