December 14, 2021 at 8:00am EST - The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) is hosting the virtual workshop “Keeping the Power On: Financing Energy Storage Solutions,” the third and last event of the 2021 Learning Platform of the Global Energy Storage Program (GESP), a $347 million initiative to support energy storage operations in developing countries.

With intensifying efforts to accelerate the clean energy transition coming out of COP26, there is even more urgency facilitate  for rapid, large-scale, deployment of energy storage solutions to support countries as they move toward a zero carbon future. . Financing energy storage projects is a critical initial step on that pathway.

The workshop will examine the evolving approaches to financing energy storage operations, and the magnitude of public and private sector investment needed. Panelists will discuss the unique aspects of financing energy storage, steps and roles in the financing cycle, plus key enabling factors and barriers. They will also examine how private capital can be deployed for energy storage in developing countries and the opportunities and barriers to increasing its volume. Speakers will highlight their experience working on clean energy and storage financing in specific developing country contexts. The workshop ultimately offers participants the opportunity to learn how concessional finance and private capital have the power to accelerate the clean energy transition through energy storage.

This workshop will bring together multilateral development banks, country officials, companies, and organizations investing in energy storage and other elements of clean energy. Register now and join a learning network of global energy storage professionals working to harness the power of energy storage through technology innovation, finance, and policy.

The Climate Investment Funds’ Global Energy Storage Program (GESP) helps deliver breakthrough energy storage solutions at scale in developing countries. The program makes CIF the world’s largest multilateral fund with a dedicated program for supporting energy storage, building on over $400 million in existing storage support. GESP funding is expected to mobilize an additional $2 billion of public and private investments for these vital technologies.
