Indigenous women have been fighting to save the planet and build the social resilience of their communities using their traditional knowledge and practices. How can we learn from Indigenous women to support effective and sustainable climate solutions? How can we empower them in efforts to integrate their tested technologies and approaches in climate action?

The Climate Investment Funds conducted a study to provide answers to these questions. The study analyzes the specific roles that Indigenous women play in generating, applying, and preserving traditional knowledge and practices, the barriers they face in performing these roles, and the factors that enable Indigenous women to include these knowledge and practices in conventional climate solutions. The study gives recommendations to practitioners and decision-makers to help develop inclusive responses to climate change and empower Indigenous women as climate action champions.
