On October 21, 2021 from 11:00am - 12:00pm EDT, The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) in partnership with the Foreign Policy will co-host the ‘FP Virtual Dialogue: Investing in the Planet’ event. This high-level program will look at opportunities and strategies to further green global development through thoughtful discussion and analysis with policy leaders and experts at the intersection of finance, sustainable development and climate action.
The event will focus how governments and global institutions can overcome risks, perceived and real, in the pursuit of clean climate investments and how emerging economies have the ability to empower smart, sustainable, and profitable growth when they invest in climate-smart development.
Currently, developing countries are bearing the brunt of the climate crisis. And in the years to come, these counties will be on track to run on 70% of the world’s energy, experience 97% of global population growth, and represent 60% of total GDP. There is an urgent need to invest in and create green market and clean infrastructure transformations for these developing nations.
‘FP Virtual Dialogue: Investing in the Planet’ will look at how developing countries can access resources to invest in next-generation climate solutions and technologies. It will examine how development organizations can facilitate investment in local communities and how governments, businesses, and other global actors can mobilize sufficient financing for rapid, at-scale, transformative clean investments.
Speakers include Mafalda Duarte, CEO of CIF; Ravi Agrawal, editor in chief of Foreign Policy; Honorable Pearnel P. Charles Jr. MP., the Jamaican Minister of the Ministry of Housing, Urban Renewal, Environment and Climate Change; and Melanie Nakagawa, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Climate and Energy at the National Security Council,
