The Caribbean region is one of the most at-risk regions in the world to the effects of climate change and has experienced varying degrees of impacts over the last few years. Its survival depends on building resilience; whether it is at a country level, community level, sector level or at an individual level.

In spite of the challenges that these impacts bring, the region has been advancing efforts to help the region build or improve its adaptive capacity. The Caribbean Regional PPCR Conference: “PPCR Caribbean – Looking to the Future”, will highlight the innovative work being done under the regional initiative of the Caribbean Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (PPCR) being undertaken by the University of the West Indies with support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Climate Investment Funds (CIFs), and in collaboration with various regional partners and stakeholder countries.

Over the two days of the conference, virtual presentations and panels will be hosted on areas related to climate-smart agriculture including molecular characterization of climate-resilient agricultural crop varieties; development of an early warning and response app for fisherfolk; the use of a supercomputer to advance climate modeling and scenarios; use of LIDAR to map coastal bathymetry; expansion of regional hydro-meteorological monitoring networks; use of online climate risk and adaptation tools; development of audit toolkit for climate and vector-borne diseases; model codes for rainwater harvesting; involvement of the private sector in adaptation and much more.

Join us (UWI, IDB and the CIFs) on June 1 & June 2 to learn more about how the Caribbean is building resilience, how these lessons can be applied globally and how future work on climate change will continue.
