This event convened government, indigenous and civil society leaders in support of nature-based solutions, and showcases the latest fundraising results for the Climate Investment Funds’ (CIF) new Nature, People, and Climate (NPC) Program.
Hosted on COP15’s Women and Youth Day, this event featured an all-female panel of Indigenous and Youth leaders that are playing a central role in implementing nature-based solutions. The discussions reflected the centrality of gender equality and social inclusion to the CIF’s mission, as the CIF NPC Program includes a Dedicated Grant Mechanism (DGM) that provides direct financing to Indigenous People and local communities (IPLCs) and includes measures to prioritize women and youth.
The second panel highlighted government and multilateral development bank perspectives on the need to urgently scale up financing for nature-based solutions. The CIF NPC Program seeks to narrow the widening nature finance gap. According to the United Nations, annual nature investments from G20 nations alone need to increase by an additional $165 billion per year—an increase of 140% from existing levels – to realize biodiversity, land restoration and climate targets by 2050. Nature investments are urgently needed and have the potential to benefit climate, the economy, and people.
Founded on the principle that sustainable use of the Earth’s natural resources is essential to our health, food security, nutrition, and economic well-being, CIF’s Nature, People and Climate (NPC) Investment Program advances people and nature as the solution our climate crisis. It will directly empower communities in developing countries to lead in driving climate change solutions.
