Vietnam

Vietnam

Vietnam, located in Southeast Asia, is bordered by Cambodia, China, Laos, and the South China Sea. Vietnam’s long coastline, geographic location, and diverse topography and climates contribute to its vulnerability to riverine, flash, and coastal flooding, as well as tropical cyclones along its northern coast. The country’s vulnerability is also exacerbated by the high proportion of its population and economic assets being located in coastal lowlands, deltas, and rural areas.

INVESTING IN VIETNAM

Vietnam

"CIF’s investment in Vietnam is through its Clean Technology Fund (CTF). Vietnam's $135-million CTF investment plan is aimed at addressing the country’s growing energy needs, while mitigating the effects of climate change. It is helping to demonstrate the commercial viability of energy efficiency and renewable energy investments to create an enabling environment for scaled-up private-sector investments and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. This includes supporting energy efficiency investments in industrial and energy service companies, initial capitalization for energy conservation and renewable energy funds, investment in a private-sector renewable energy risk-sharing facility, and enhancements to urban transport systems in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Through the CIF-TAF, there was approximatley $750,000 programmed for technical assistance activities in 2021. The programs covered activities that support climate mitigation and adaptation measures, and assisting in a green and resilient recovery in the aftermath of Covid-19."
