Tajikistan

Tajikistan

Tajikistan is a landlocked country sharing borders with Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan, China, and Afghanistan. With mountains occupying about 93 percent of the terrain, Tajikistan is a mountainous country with diverse topography. The country’s vulnerability to earthquakes, floods, droughts, avalanches, landslides, and mudslides can be attributed to its topographical characteristics. Its glacier-dependent river basins, fragile mountain ecosystems, and isolated forests with mountainous and riverine terrain, make it prone to landslides and land degradation.

Investing in tajikistan

Tajikistan

CIF’s investment in Tajikistan is through its Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (PPCR). Tajikistan's $72-million PPCR investment plan aims to reinvigorate the process of building understanding and capacity on climate change issues, as well as generate an institutional framework to manage, oversee, and influence climate change activities in the longer term.

Tajikistan’s PPCR investments are focused on climate-proofing key water management and hydroelectric infrastructure, improving institutional capacities for effectively integrating climate resilience into national development and investment planning, supporting land management measures to enhance rural livelihoods and resilience to climate-related shocks, and promoting micro-financing and access to climate technologies that promote efficient use of water, energy and land resources.

Through the CIF-TAF, approximately $ 670,000 was programmed for technical assistance activities in 2021. The programs covers an array of activites to support climate mitigation through supporting the development of a national clean heating ivnestment plan.
