India

India

India shares borders with several sovereign countries: China, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar. Lying between the Himalayas and the Indian Ocean, India contains diverse ecosystems that includes mountainous terrain, northern plains, peninsular plateau, coastal plains, island groups, and deserts, characterized by many different climates, great biodiversity, and rich natural resources. India is highly vulnerable to riverine, flash, and coastal flooding; tropical cyclones; and droughts. Its vulnerability is exacerbated by the high levels of socioeconomic deprivation among its people.

INVESTING IN INDIA

INVESTING IN INDIA

CIF's investments in India are through its Clean Technology Fund. India is leading the way for a new era of low carbon development, and its solar ambition will help transform an energy structure currently dominated by coal. The majority of India’s $793 million CTF investment plan supports the development of over 3 GW of new installed solar power capacity and associated transmission infrastructure.

In particular, CTF concessional financing is helping to offset the high upfront costs of large-scale solar park projects and to de-risk investments in rooftop solar photovoltaics to unleash its full market potential.

Through the CIF-TAF, there was over $800,000 programmed for technical assistance activities in 2020 and 2021. The efforts ranged across provision of climate finance for financial institutions,

Through the recently-launched Accelerating Coal Transition (ACT) program, India has been selected as one of the first 4 pilot countries, and can receive up to $ 500 milliion in financing for program implementation.
