Ecuador

Ecuador

Ecuador is an Andean country in the northwest corner of South America, with a total land area of 256,370 square kilometers (sq km). It is bordered by Colombia, Peru, and the Pacific Ocean. With its wide range of climate zones and an extraordinary array of geographical systems, climatic and human conditions, many of Ecuador’s systems are highly vulnerable and have already shown great sensitivity to climate variability and long-term change. The threats that have affected the country include droughts, floods, landslides, and volcanic eruptions.

INVESTING IN ECUADOR

Ecuador

CIF's investment in Ecuador is through its Forest Investment Program (FIP). In line with the country's Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) action plan, its $24 million FIP investment plan aims to contribute to reducing (1) deforestation and forest degradation through conservation, sustainable forest management, and the optimization of other land uses, and (2) greenhouse gas emissions.

Projects include managing forest landscapes in three selected zones to conserve forest remnants and increase the value of standing native forests to expand economic opportunities for local communities. Other efforts are focused on adopting sustainable agricultural practices and restoring degraded lands abutting conservation areas to improve land use management and livelihoods.

Through the CIF-TAF, approximately $ 750,000 was programmed for technical assistance activities in 2021. The program covered an array of activites to support the strengthening promotion of green jobs across the country.
