Bolivia

Bolivia

Bolivia is a landlocked country located in central South America between the Andes and the Amazon. It is bordered by Peru, Paraguay, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina. Despite an abundance of water resources, water scarcity is a growing problem in parts of highlands and valleys. Temperature increases and climate variability are causing diseases, such as malaria and dengue fever. The country's vulnerability is exacerbated by the significant concentrations of Bolivia’s population living in fragile mountain ecosystems and expanding arid zones.

INVESTING IN BOLIVIA

Bolivia

CIF’s investment in Bolivia is through its Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (PPCR). In line with the country's strategic program for climate resilience under PPCR to focus on water resources management, Bolivia’s $85-million PPCR investment plan is aimed at strengthening its capacity to define and implement an integrated river basin management approach. This is part of the country’s National Mechanism for Adaptation to Climate Change and pilot activities in priority river basins.

The investment plan is helping to improve the water and sanitation systems for 800,000 people in metropolitan La Paz and El Alto, as well as enhancing the climate resilience of production systems, ecosystems, and prioritized settlements in Mizque and Pirai — two Rio Grande sub-basins.

Through the CIF-TAF, there was approximtely $ 200,000 programmed for technical assistance activities in 2021. The program covered an array of activities that aim to develop policies and regulations to enable green hydrogen investments.
