Algeria, located in northwestern Africa, is the largest country in Africa. It is bordered by Morocco, Mali, Libya, Tunisia, Mauritania, Niger, Western Sahara, and the Mediterranean Sea. The majority of the country is made up of desert, with the Ahaggar mountains covering an extensive area to the East. Over 34 percent of the population live in rural areas, with a heavy concentration in the coastal area. Due to a gradual decline in rainfall, it is vulnerable to droughts and increasingly frequent floods.

INVESTING IN ALGERIA

Algeria

CIF’s investment in Algeria is through its Clean Technology Fund (CTF). Algeria's CTF-supported technical assistance program aims to lay the foundation for scaling up concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies. Specifically, it addresses sector-wide weaknesses, such as the absence of a regulatory framework as well as a lack of capacity and knowledge.
