1998 NOVA AWARD nominations break records
again

The Construction Innovation Forum (CIF), an international non-profit
organization, announced it has received another record number of 46
nominations in its annual NOVA Award competition. CIF's NOVA Award recognizes
innovations in the construction industry that improve quality, efficiency
and cost-effectiveness. The 1998 nominees were submitted from twenty
different states with three from Canada, one from Russia and one from
Switzerland. A breakdown of nominees is in enclosed.
Since 1990, a total of 27 innovations have received NOVA awards. Winners
of this prestigious award are selected by a distinguished panel of ten
jurors who follow a four-phase investigative selection process.
The 1998 NOVA Award jury members are: Phillip V. Frederickson, The Christman
Company, Lansing, Michigan; Milton C. Gore, Jr., DuPont Engineering,
Orange, Texas; Peter J. Green, John E. Green Mechanical Company; Charles
W. Jones, Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers & Helpers,
Kansas City, Kansas; Thomas P. Muller, Caterpillar, Inc., Aurora, Illinois;
Michael J. O'Connor, U.S. Army-CERL, Champaign, Illinois; James C. Stein,
Fluor Daniel, Inc., Greenville, South Carolina; Howard B. Stussman,
Engineering News-Record, New York, New York; Robert A. Valentine, General
Motors Facilities Engineering, Detroit, Michigan and Richard N. Wright,
National Institute of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, Maryland.
The 1998 NOVA Awards will be presented at the Innovation Celebration
Banquet on March 12, 1998 at the Laurel Manor in Livonia, Michigan.
The keynote speaker will be Hanns Baumann, inventor of Baumesh, a 1992
NOVA Award winner. His presentation will be "Inventions and Inventors".
Tickets are selling briskly for the event, and another sellout crowd
of over 600 industry professionals is expected to attend this year's
Celebration. Tickets are $175 per person. Tables of eight are $1,200.
