Description: |
This nomination describes a team approach to the
development of a contract for the renovation and upgrade of a primary waste
water facility. The upgrade was required by a Federal Mandate of 1984 to
provide secondary sewage treatment at the West Point plant in Seattle,
Washington, before 1996. The renovation team was comprised of experts from
the owner, the designer, and all critical mechanical and electrical
contractors. While the team approach to construction management was not new,
the prior recognition that the overall project would not be paced by the
civil or general contractor's work but by the mechanical and electrical work
was considered unique. The team approach was also adopted because the upgrade
required the accomplishment of four years of construction while the plant was
in continuous operation. |
