Description: |
This nomination is for the design and erection of a new pipe trestle at the Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The new trestle was built around an existing trestle, pipes and conduits were supported from the new trestle, and the existing trestle was dismantled. The new trestle is made of weathering steel to eliminate painting and paint maintenance and single angles were used for the truss web members to avoid moisture entrapment. Wide flange tee sections were selected for top and bottom chords of the trusses. Web members were welded to the tee stems which eliminated gusset plates. Plant operations continued during the eight week construction period. The design capacity of the new trestle is more than three times the capacity of the old trestle. Keywords: rehab retrofit |
