WMATA Construction Safety Awareness Program |
Year: |
1991 |
Description: |
This construction safety awareness program is designed to increase construction safety and reduce construction workers' compensation costs. For each WMATA contract over $500,000, a lost work-day incidence-rate objective is established based on past rates on similar work. A possible safety awareness program award or penalty is also established for easch contract. The amount of this award or penalty is equal to one percent of the estimated dollar value of the contract, not to exceed $500,000. At the time of completion of work by the contractor, an incidence rate for the contract is determined. The contractor receives an award or incurs a penalty according to the difference between the contractor's rate and the pre-established objective rate. |
