Description: |
WALKTHRUtm, a 3D computer modeling software, was developed by Bechtel in 1986. It provides a a three dimensional view of the project and allows the project model or any of its parts to be rotated in any direction or viewed from any angle. It allows the designer to verify the appearance of the design and gives the constructor a model with which to plan the field work. Because the electronic files used by WALKTHRUtm are the design themselves, the model that is viewed is as up to date as the design. There is no need to wait for the construction of the traditional plastic model. The program has been used on many projects. The program has been used as an erection planning tool; in detecting interferences; for providing access information for construction, maintenance, and operations personnel; in determining the degree of modularization or prefabrication; in the performance of constructability reviews; to allow design to be performed in multiple offices with construction review occurring at a common location; and as a visualization tool to train craftsmen. |
