Year:

1991

Description:

This innovation was the use of gunite/shotcrete in lieu of poured-in-place concrete to achieve a highly detailed architectural finish. The application was on exterior architectural fins of a seven story dormitory building. The innovative use of gunite/shotcrete for the fins enabled them to successfully match the existing adjacent fins of poured concrete. Finishers were guided by carefully placed boundary wires. The use of gunite/shotcrete was highly innovative for this type of project. The achievement of detailed architectural concrete pneumatically applied is not a standard industry practice.
