1997 Innovation Celebration Ticket Sales Breaking Records Again

Ticket demand for the 1997 Innovation Celebration is already breaking last years' record pace. At publication time, over 330 tickets have been purchased. Seating will be limited to 600 to maintain the quality of construction's most prestigious event. We encourage you to purchase your tickets early as the last five celebrations have sold out more than a month prior to the event.

The 1997 Innovation Celebration will be held on March 13, 1997 at the Laurel Manor in Livonia, Michigan. The keynote speaker will be J. Peter Ellefson, Construction Manager, E.I. duPont Nemours Company, Wilmington, Delaware. His speech will focus on 'How to Find and Use Innovation Worldwide'. The Innovation Celebration will begin at 4:30 pm with a cocktail reception, followed by dinner, keynote address and the 1997 NOVA Awards Presentation.

Please contact the CIF office for a reservation - (313) 995-1855 phone, (313) 995-5002 fax, or send email to: info@cif.org. Tickets are $175 each or $1,200 for a table of eight. Seating will be in tables of eight and table purchases receive preferential seating.

Nomination Process. How is a NOVA Award Winner Selected?

The NOVA Award Jury Process
The selection of the NOVA Award recipients is a four-stage process. The first stage is the Call for Nominations which started the day after the March Innovation Celebration and ended September 15, 1996. The Jury met to review each of the nominations and select finalists for further investigation by the CIF Awards Manager and Assistants.

The CIF then investigated and prepared a confidential report for the Jury on each finalist. Each of the finalists was thoroughly screened, first by contacting the people listed in the nomination. Independent sources were also contacted so the jury could base it's final decision on objective information.

The CIF Awards Manager is Robert B. Harris, Professor Emeritus of Civil Engineering at the University of Michigan. He oversees the investigation of each finalist with support from John Everett, Photios Ioannou, and Tony Tons, Professors from the University of Michigan Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Construction Engineering and Management program. CIF cannot thank these individuals enough for the numerous volunteer hours spent researching the finalists.

The jury will meet once again in late January and review each report on the finalists and then select the eventual NOVA Award winners.

The NOVA Award winners will be announced and statues presented to the winning innovations at the Innovation Celebration scheduled for March 14 in the Livonia, Michigan. All nominees, as well as winners, will be acknowledged at the Innovation Celebration in a Nominee Booklet that will be given to each attendee. The booklet will describe each nomination entry and a contact person and address.
